Are you looking to use your engineering capabilities, project management and collective skills in your next position? We could use your expertise on our team! We are seeking a Project Engineer II to lead the engineering support team for a high-visibility airborne command and control program’s aircraft modification and testing activities. This role requires expertise in managing multidisciplinary engineering projects, particularly those involving system integration, instrumentation design, and ground/flight test support. You will be responsible for coordinating technical efforts, ensuring on-time delivery of engineering solutions, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 10+ years' experience in engineering roles with at least 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in aerospace, defense, or a similar high-reliability engineering environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering principles and practice.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development team.
  • Detailed understanding of requirements management, system design, and integration.
  • Prior experience leading or managing engineering teams supporting aircraft modification and/or test programs.
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation design, test planning, and execution for ground and flight test activities.
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering processes, configuration management, and regulatory compliance (e.g., FAA, DoD standards).
  • Proficiency with engineering software/tools and project management platforms.
  • Active Secret or higher U.S. Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 4-6 years relevant leadership and/or project management experience.
  • Experience with advanced project management tools and methodologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
  • Experience leading a multi-disciplinary design and development team and communicating with program management and customers.
  • Familiarity with preparation and development of project estimates, technical proposals, and program cost and schedule management.
  • Past history of leading baseline definition and maturation in a complex development setting, including the use of highly integrated trade studies and analysis of alternative.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics, parts lists, specifications, instructions and test procedure.
  • Experience or certification in International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) standard.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineers supporting aircraft instrumentation and test activities, including ground and flight test operations.
  • Oversee the design and integration of instrumentation systems for test aircraft, ensuring compliance with program requirements and industry standards.
  • Develop, review, and approve engineering documentation, including special instructions, test procedures, and modification drawings.
  • Coordinate across internal teams (systems, hardware, software, test, and manufacturing engineering) to support the execution of project milestones.
  • Serve as the primary engineering point of contact for test activities, collaborating closely with program management, customers, and external stakeholders.
  • Track project progress, resolve technical issues, and manage risk throughout the engineering lifecycle.
  • Ensure all engineering work aligns with safety protocols, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support configuration management and change control processes for all test-related deliverables.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, and readiness assessments for ground and flight test phases.
  • Provide technical input for resource planning, schedule development, and cost estimation.
