About The Position

We are currently seeking an Entry-Level Project Engineer – Transportation to join our Indianapolis or New Albany office. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent or upcoming Civil Engineering graduate who is interested in building a career in transportation engineering. You will work alongside experienced engineers and project managers while gaining hands-on experience supporting our Roadway, Drainage, Traffic, and Bridge teams. The position provides exposure to multiple areas of transportation engineering and may also include utility and railroad coordination, environmental documentation, permitting, and field activities. You will receive guidance and mentorship while developing the technical skills needed to take on greater project responsibility over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited engineering program, completed or anticipated by the start date.
  • 0–2 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, learn from experienced team members, and manage multiple assignments.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn new technical skills and grow within the Transportation team.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or plans to pursue EIT certification preferred.
  • Previous internship, co-op, or academic project experience related to civil or transportation engineering is a plus but not required.
  • Interest in developing experience across roadway, drainage, traffic, bridge, and other transportation disciplines.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar engineering software through coursework, internships, or professional experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning and design of roadway, drainage, traffic, bridge, and other transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design plans, exhibits, technical documentation, and cost estimates under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Support roadway design activities, including roadway geometry, grading, intersections, and related improvements.
  • Assist with drainage, traffic, and bridge-related engineering assignments based on project needs.
  • Support utility and railroad coordination, environmental documentation, permitting, and agency coordination as needed.
  • Learn and apply applicable transportation design standards, engineering practices, and quality-control procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, project managers, and other disciplines to support project delivery.
  • Participate in project meetings, site visits, field investigations, and construction-related activities as needed.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and assist the team in meeting project schedules and quality expectations.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and take on increasing project responsibility as experience grows.
