About The Position

As a Firmware Project Engineer, you’ll be part of our Electrification and Advanced Technology Group (EAT) team working as an on-site employee. We are a small, hands-on, diverse team of dedicated engineers responsible for advancing electrification through our core business. We work closely with our marketing, engineering and business leaders to identify new needs, to design and prototype tools that meet our customers high expectations, to create robust tests that guarantee the tools we make stand up to the toughest environments. Our engineers own every aspect of the process along the way.

Requirements

  • BSEE/MSEE Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • years’ Experience with C and C++ software development.
  • Knowledge of assembly programming.
  • Experience with using microcontrollers and associated peripherals such as timers, ADC, communication interfaces (UART, SPI, I2C), etc.
  • Experience with closed loop control and feedback systems.
  • Experience with motor drive systems and understanding of common algorithms to control motors including Field Oriented Control.
  • Understanding of common microcontroller peripherals such as: timers, GPIO, watchdog, ADC, UART, DMA.
  • Strong understanding of embedded software concepts, including hard real time processing, process scheduling, cooperative multitasking, interrupt processing, race conditions, RTOS. Experience with both hardware and software development
  • Experience with using electronic equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, digital multimeters etc.
  • Experience with debugging (either with in-circuit debugger or by other means)
  • Display strong ownership of an objective and work diligently to resolve it.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced motor control algorithms such as Sensorless motor control on various proof-of concept prototypes.
  • Design, simulate, implement, and test new motor control functionality in an embedded system
  • Provide leadership in achieving performance and technology teams objectives related to electronic systems, components and sub-assemblies.
  • Develop solutions for electrification of Power Tools and Outdoor Equipment as a member of Electrification and Advanced Technology team.
  • Document all designs and decisions so that others can understand and expand.
  • Communicate with internal customers and stake holders to understands their needs.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule to track progress in fulfilling an objective within a deadline.
  • Training and mentoring junior team members.
  • Keep up with latest technological advancements in Semiconductor and Motor technologies that are relevant to Stanley Black and Decker.
