About The Position

Pennoni is seeking a Project Engineer (PE) Diver to lead Underwater and Topside Inspection Teams in their Raleigh, NC office. This role involves performing underwater and topside inspections of bridges and waterfront structures across multiple states, providing emergency response services, and ensuring the safety of the traveling public through detailed assessments. The position also includes managing inspection task orders, preparing comprehensive reports with CADD sketches, participating in design development, and generating accurate project documentation. The role requires adherence to industry standards for equipment maintenance, diving safety, and inspection procedures, as well as compliance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and OSHA Regulations.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineering License (PE)
  • 8+ years of underwater bridge and underwater inspection experience.
  • Meet NBIS Underwater and Topside Team Inspector requirements
  • Commercial Diving (ADCI) Certification
  • Current USDOT physical
  • ADCI medical examination within last 12 months.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Physically capable of performing field work, including working in inclement weather, climbing slopes and ladders, carrying gear (up to 75 lbs.), operating small boats, and using hand and power tools.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others.
  • Capable of self-leadership with attention to detail, ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet client objectives.
  • Occasional travel/overnight travel will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • ADCI Air-diving Supervisor Certification
  • Prior leadership experience
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or MicroStation; Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Structural Design experience with waterfront structures and bridges
  • Load rating and structural analysis experience
  • NDT/NDE experience
  • VDOT, NCDOT and/or SCDOT experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform underwater and topside inspections of bridges and waterfront structures.
  • Provide emergency response services associated with weather events.
  • Ensure the safety of the traveling public through detailed assessments of bridge components and channel conditions.
  • Manage bridge inspection task orders and interface with client/owner project managers.
  • Prepare inspection reports, including CADD sketches and soundings.
  • Participate in the design development of transportation improvement and bridge projects.
  • Generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project.
  • Ensure responsibilities are delivered with a quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for equipment maintenance, diving safety, and inspection procedures.
  • Plan, schedule, and perform bridge inspections in accordance with specific bridge owners' requirements, NBIS, and OSHA Regulations.
