The Project Engineer – Design Team Lead, leads and manages a portion of the design team. Responsible for 1) People leadership, team member development, workload management, and supporting team success. 2) Driving continuous improvement efforts across different engineering disciplines and making critical decisions that impact projects and engineering initiatives. 3) Provides mentorship in high level analysis and design of new and modified components and subsystems in accordance with engineering standards and project scope.

Requirements

  • Accredited Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field and five (5) or more years of related experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum three (3) years of leadership experience, including employee development, workload management, team performance, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and leadership skills with the ability to foster accountability and influence others.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with a high-level CAD system.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of about 8-11 Designers (a subset of the full team).
  • Provide coaching and development through regular performance feedback, professional development opportunities, mentoring, and creation of individual development plans.
  • Track team workload, schedules, priorities, and resource allocation to ensure business objectives are achieved.
  • Communicate objectives, priorities, expectations, and business goals to team members.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of your team in coordination with the larger Design Team.
  • Support overall Design Team’s Chief Engineer with activities relating to your team such as budget, direct v. indirect, training, etc.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with internal and external customers across segments and functions.
  • Support the team and project execution by helping prioritize work, resolve issues, and achieve deliverables on time.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancement efforts across engineering disciplines.
  • Manage multiple priorities while ensuring team objectives and deliverables are achieved.
  • Create and maintain project documentation, analysis summaries, research records, and other support documentation needed by the team.
  • Analyze and help resolve issues reported to Engineering through verbal or written communication.
  • Participate in larger team initiatives involving metrics, mentoring, organizational effectiveness, and employee development.
  • Enforce the proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
