About The Position

This position is located in Irvine, CA. The role involves supporting customers with the design, installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems. The engineer will complete assigned work using established procedures, working under immediate supervision, and within agreed-upon scope, schedule, and budget, with a focus on quality and safety. The role also requires adherence to SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

Requirements

B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
Self-motivated with continuous desire to learn and find solutions
Willing to travel both domestically and internationally a minimum of 25% based on focus area.
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Nice To Haves

College coursework in electric power and/or controls (power system protection, symmetrical components, programming, control systems)
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
Work experience in electric utilities, industrial plants, communications, computer programming, or construction
Focus Area = Automation
Automation = software, integration and automation, industrial controls, PLCs, industry protocols (IEC-61850, DNP, Modbus), Ethernet systems, protocol analyzers, and industry SCADA practices

Responsibilities

Knows and applies fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of power system automation.
Assist teams that support customers with the design, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
Complete assigned work using established procedures and working under immediate supervision.
Complete assigned work within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget while focusing on quality and safety.
Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
