About The Position

The BAE Systems SMS Cryogenic team is seeking an Associate Project Engineer for Cryogenic Systems. In this role, you will be accountable for managing and delivering a defined and agreed upon scope of work that meets requirements and cost/schedule commitments. The Engineering, Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for our customers’ missions. Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 4 or more years related experience.
  • Working knowledge of thermal, subcontract management, and specifications.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, DOORS.
  • Experience using CAD software (such as: SolidWorks)
  • Experience in spacecraft and/or precision aerospace electro-mechanical, and/or opto-mechanical flight hardware systems.
  • Experience with cryo systems, cryocoolers, cryo-radiators, components and/or ground support equipment cryogenic/thermal design.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage difficult conversations on topics such as: decisions, impacts to schedule, impacts to technical performance, and impacts to cost.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • The applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the team in technical discussions, and able to guide the technical decisions and make risk-based decisions.
  • Generate time-phased staffing and material estimates for assigned area of responsibility and manage to an agreed upon staffing.
  • Manage low risk subcontracts.
  • Learn and coordinate what is needed from other engineering disciplines.
  • Learn how to effectively use BAE SMS standard processes and tools and adjust and adapt to program specific tools.
  • Demonstrate commitment to job responsibilities, organizational goals, co-workers, and what's best for SMS; can be counted on to take initiative, show persistence, and display a sense of urgency to achieve goals.
  • Organize tasks and data effectively, accurately scope out the length and difficulty of tasks, and prioritize and re-plan as needed to respond to changes; may also so set team priorities.
  • Learn change, risk, and opportunity management.
  • Ensure that products are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform control account manager duties.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.
