Project Electrical Design Engineer

Hovland Barnes•Massachusetts, MA

About The Position

American Client is a growing, founder-led electrical engineering firm serving architects, contractors, and building owners across New England. We turn complex electrical requirements into clear, constructible solutions, keeping projects on track and decisions simple before they become costly problems. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build the team and shape the firm as it grows. The Opportunity Join American Client as a Project Electrical Design Engineer and work directly with our Founder and Principal Engineer on building electrical design for renovation and new-construction projects across New England. You will work directly with the Founder, not through layers of management, designing power distribution, lighting and controls, fire alarm and life safety, emergency/backup power, and low-voltage systems. 100% remote, open to candidates anywhere in the U.S., with a preference (not a requirement) for candidates based in Massachusetts or Rhode Island.

Requirements

  • 5-7+ years of professional electrical engineering experience, with a strong focus on building/AEC electrical design (no PE license required).
  • Working knowledge of the NEC, energy codes, and life-safety requirements.
  • Experience with load calculations, service sizing, panel schedules, and code-compliance reviews.
  • Ability to produce clear construction documents and specifications and to respond to RFIs and review submittals.
  • Comfortable managing remote/contract drafting and modeling resources.
  • Ability to take a basic design and carry it through to detailed engineering with minimal oversight.
  • Strong, clear communicator who can explain technical decisions to non-engineers and keep architects, contractors, utilities, and AHJs coordinated.
  • Self-directed and organized, comfortable owning projects in a remote, fast-moving, startup-style environment.
  • Uses company standards, checklists, and systems to complete work and improves them instead of working around them.
  • Anticipates needs, proactively manages others, and doesn't wait to be told what to do.
  • Takes extreme ownership: doesn't blame people or circumstances, fixes problems, closes loops, and keeps learning.
  • Currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
