About The Position

The Project Director is responsible for the overall management of the project, ensuring a safe, effective, and efficient operation in adherence to Company values, policies, and procedures. This role may encompass duties of other positions, such as Project Manager, depending on project circumstances like size, complexity, and personnel availability. The Project Director collaborates with Project Managers to ensure contracted performance from project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. Key accountabilities include client satisfaction, safety, and financial performance for assigned business units and projects. This position also contributes to business development and enhances the Company's competitive capabilities. Close communication with the Area Manager is essential for business unit success. The role requires a regular onsite presence at a large commercial construction project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, with a travel package provided to support the assignment and associated travel requirements.

Requirements

  • Extensive progressively responsible experience in construction operations, project management, estimating, scheduling, and field personnel management is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Construction related discipline, Business Administration, Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Regular onsite presence at a large commercial construction project in Eagle Butte, South Dakota.
  • Ability to perform duties and responsibilities of other Company role descriptions (e.g., Project Manager) as required.
  • Ability to practice, instruct, and enforce all OSHA safety requirements/guidelines, in addition to all company policies and procedures.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to work long hours for extended periods of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading large, complex commercial vertical construction projects valued at $200 million or more is strongly preferred.
  • Experience overseeing multiphase projects, large project teams, and significant subcontractor and stakeholder coordination is also preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor safety, job cost, schedules, and quality of work on all assigned projects.
  • Provide assistance in preconstruction to determine optimal staffing, schedule, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Be an active part of the office leadership team and contribute to the executive direction and leadership of the area office by participating in strategic discussions.
  • Work and collaborate with other offices and Human Resources regarding personnel assignments, training initiatives, and project pursuits.
  • Understand role as the primary manager of construction activities.
  • Assist in developing goals for all assigned personnel; evaluate personnel and recommend adjustments for career advancement based on performance.
  • Prepare and conduct timely performance communication of assigned personnel.
  • Consult and communicate with the Vice President of Management Operations on an as-needed basis.
  • Visit assigned jobsites at a minimum of once per month to inspect project status, including safety policies and procedures adherence, schedule status, and update of schedule changes/modifications.
  • Report monthly to the Division President and VP on the status of assigned projects and personnel.
  • Effectively train, coach, discipline, and develop employees to achieve and maintain positive working relationships within the department.
  • Manage the workforce in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
