About The Position

SCS is seeking a Senior Engineer/Project Director for their Tampa office to mentor staff, support leadership, and lead projects that facilitate client objectives. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, team-focused, and humble. This role involves leading client interactions, developing junior staff, and overseeing design and permitting teams, with the ability to serve as the Engineer of Record. The primary focus will be on solid waste management projects, including landfill gas, landfills and landfill infrastructure, composting, and transfer stations. The position requires a hybrid work arrangement in the Tampa office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related engineering degree.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience specific to the solid waste industry such as landfill gas management, air compliance, landfill design and permitting, landfill operations support, or compost facility operations.
  • A minimum of 2 years of consulting experience.
  • P.E. or P.G. registration required (preferably Florida) or ability to obtain reciprocity in Florida within 6 months.
  • Experience managing project financials and leading technical teams.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, regulatory agencies, and permitting requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interactions with clients.
  • Develop the technical skills of highly motivated junior staff.
  • Oversee design and permitting teams.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record on projects for public and private clients.

  • Apply engineering and scientific principles in solid waste and related fields.
  • Oversee the preparation of construction plans, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex engineering, operations, and regulatory challenges.
  • Complete quality control reviews on all work products.
  • Coordinate with GIS and CAD drafters for design plans/figures or use AutoCAD or ArcGIS for basic design plans/figures.
  • Business development including proposal preparation, meeting with clients, and attending industry-related conferences/trade shows.
  • Work independently and on teams to resolve engineering challenges, plan and coordinate work, and represent SCS at meetings, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Achieve set revenue, profit, and client satisfaction goals.
