About The Position

The Project Department Manager Engineering is responsible for overseeing Department Goals for a specific project as directed by the Program Engineer and Chief Department Engineer. This role involves preparing, overseeing, and assigning design calculations and drawing development to support Program Goals. The manager is also responsible for checking calculations and progressing all department work. The position exercises direction by leading and directing the work of Engineers I, II, III, Designers, and Draftspersons, and determines the technical adequacy of drawings and calculations. Discretion is exercised by providing input to evaluations of these personnel and having the authority to direct, evaluate, and correct their work. The role liaises with Engineers, Production Personnel, Customers, Regulatory Bodies, Program Management, and Equipment Suppliers.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 plus years of design and/or construction experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of scheduling and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Experienced in interacting with Production, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives and equipment manufacturers
  • Computer literate and familiar with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products
  • Thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion systems
  • Strong working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e. ABS, DNV, GL, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, etc.)
  • US Citizenship
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture or equivalent engineering degree or minimum 15 years of equivalent marine design experience (for Naval Architect)
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel structural design (for Naval Architect)
  • Thorough knowledge of vessel trim & stability calculations (for Naval Architect)
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree or minimum 15 years of equivalent marine design experience (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of ship and propulsion system design and operation (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of engine alignment and shaft design and alignment (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of HVAC design (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree or minimum 15 years of equivalent marine design experience (for Electrical Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of power distribution and lighting systems (for Electrical Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of automation, control and communication systems (for Electrical Engineer)
  • Strong working knowledge of IEEE and NEC (for Electrical Engineer)
  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or minimum 15 years of equivalent marine design experience (for Fit Out Engineer)
  • Thorough knowledge of light weight aluminum joiner construction (for Fit Out Engineer)
  • Strong working knowledge of USPH requirements (for Fit Out Engineer)
  • 18 years of age or older at time of application
  • Able to provide proof of US Person Status
  • No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
  • No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
  • Willing to submit to a drug screen
  • Willing to submit to a background check

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced in the construction of high speed aluminum vessels
  • Working knowledge of modular construction methods
  • Experienced in design and construction of US Navy vessels
  • Understanding of shock design
  • Working knowledge of FEA methods (for Naval Architect)
  • Working knowledge of FEA methods (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
  • Knowledge of composite shafting (for Marine / Mechanical Engineer)
