About The Position

The Project Counselor is a position 100% federally funded by the TRIO Talent Search programs. These programs provide counseling and other services to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds complete high school and enroll in college.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged youth.
  • Knowledge of academic, personal, and financial aid counseling.
  • Skills in case management and crisis intervention.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other programs and organizations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience with TRIO programs.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Provides individual and group counseling for students on academic, personal, and financial aid topics.
  • Helping students with career planning and identifying college and career objectives
  • Assesses and documents the academic and motivational needs of students selected for participation in program activities.
  • Provides crisis intervention and coordinating care as needed
  • Providing case management services through ongoing contact and follow up with students
  • Provides reports to the director to ensure participants are following program guidelines
  • Assist Project Director and Advisers in managing TRIO programming, including recruitment, outreach, and program assessments
  • Representing the Parris Foundation at professional and community organizations
  • Engages in collaborative efforts with other Talent Search Programs to seek internal and external resources to augment counseling services.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
