About The Position

MACC invites qualified applications for the grant-funded position of Project Coordinator of Stabilitas: Renewing Rural Ministry. The coordinator will also serve as Professor of Practical Theology (open-rank), teaching two courses per semester while managing the project. This five-year grant aims to build the capacity of rural dioceses to invest in the formation of permanent deacons and lay ecclesial ministers, in partnership with Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary (SOT/Sem). Directly supporting the Director of the Stabilitas project at Saint John’s SOT/Sem, the principal responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include collaboration with representatives of partner dioceses, assessment of formation needs throughout the upper midwestern states, curriculum and/or program design, and assessment of best practices for ministerial accompaniment. The position requires administrative coordination, managing all subgrant budgets and activities, supporting recruitment for MACC and Saint John’s collaborative ministry formation programming, and providing annual reports to the Lilly Endowment, Inc. Seasoned experience in lay ecclesial ministry formation, and/or diaconal formation, as well as immersive ministry experience in multicultural, rural settings, is preferred. As a faculty member, the coordinator will also teach 2 courses per semester in MACC’s core curriculum. Teaching assignments will depend on one’s area of specialization but may include Moral Theology, Catechesis, Spirituality, Pastoral Care and Mental Health Ministry, Intercultural Competencies, and/or Rural Ministry. The total teaching assignment will be no more than four courses distributed between fall and spring semesters. Reporting directly to the Academic Dean while working closely with the Senior Director of Programs, the coordinator will advance the ecclesial mission of MACC and Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary, contributing to the growth of their programs at a national level. This position is grant-funded through 2030, is subject to change, and may be impacted by external factors.

Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Theology (any specialization)
Minimum of 3-5 years of teaching experience, as well as 3-5 pastoral and management or administrative experience with a background in program development, evaluation, Program/Project Management, or other related experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church, willing to request the Mandatum from the local ordinary.
Thorough knowledge of the Catholic Church Magisterium.
Demonstrate maturity as a person (being), believer (knowing) and apostle (knowing how) as outlined in the General Directory for Catechesis and National Directory for Catechesis.
Proven ability to design and develop certification programs, talks, presentations, and educational and skill training programs, and the technical support required for these.
Excellent ability to comprehend and explain complex, semi-complex policy and procedure.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and project management experience.
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives.

Nice To Haves

D.Min. or Ph.D. in Practical Theology, Moral Theology, or Spirituality.

Five or more years of teaching, pastoral management and/or other administrative experience with background in program development, evaluation, Program/Project Management, or other related experience.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, including online pedagogy, research, and service to the institution and profession.
Knowledge and experience of one or more areas of ministerial practice, such as parish ministry, diocesan programming, pastoral care, catechesis, homiletics, criminal justice ministries, rural ministry, spirituality and spiritual direction, and intercultural ministry, most especially with Hispanic and Asian American communities.

Responsibilities

Working in collaboration with the Stabilitas Director at Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary, the Project Coordinator will: Accompany grant partners (dioceses convened by Saint John’s SOT/Sem), co-leading a formation council to assess ministry needs and participating in administrative sessions with key stakeholders.
Identify pathways to collaboration/enrollment of partners at MACC and in the Saint John’s SOT/Sem’s formation offerings.
Produce programming and curriculum as related to the grant narrative in collaboration with the Academic Dean; develop resources for partner dioceses.
Manage subgrant budget, continuous assessment of grant activities, and external reporting to the Lilly Endowment.
Use all the technological tools available for the Church and professional training markets, especially tailored online teaching.
Maintain regular communication with the Saint John’s Project Director regarding all aspects of the project, including curriculum, student performance, and engagement of key administrative stakeholders at Saint John’s and MACC.
Assist in the life cycle of registered students representing the diocesan collaboration—including recruitment, placement, and advising (as needed)—in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs.
Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings at MACC in person.
Serve as a member of the Student Academic Success Committee (SASC) and participates in the committee meetings in person.
Maintain awareness of the national ministry trends, important ecclesial documents and other resources made available.
Participate in professional scholarly and/or pastoral ministry associations; recognize developing national and international trends influencing the Church; network with ministry leaders and peers in formation programs nationwide.
Regularly engage in personal growth, professional development, theological study, prayer, charity and justice work, and spiritual formation.
Must always be obedient to the Magisterium of the Catholic Church under the guidance of the Archbishop of San Antonio.
Adhere to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
Protect the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to students’ names and information, services rendered to students, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
Adhere to the mandatory Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy of the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
Formulate a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Teach 2 classes per semester at MACC, for a total of 4 classes per academic year.
Provide rigorous classroom education in practical theology or related fields, in a context of ministry formation and accompaniment of students.
Adhere to all academic policies of MACC as articulated in the Academic Catalog, Student Handbook, and Faculty Handbook.
Develop online or face-to-face courses for students of ministry and practical theology.
Participate actively in monthly faculty meetings in person, as well as regular faculty development opportunities.
Maintain proficiency in classroom technology and online learning, including Canvas LMS.
Address student performance issues with the Academic Dean and Director of Student Affairs.
