About The Position

Metrolinx is seeking experienced Project Coordinators to join their Project Delivery Office and support the development of transit solutions. This role involves coordinating and reporting on daily project activities, including the design and construction of assigned transit infrastructure projects. The goal is to ensure these projects are executed safely, consistently, and cost-effectively. This is an in-office position based at head offices and various site locations across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). This posting is to create a candidate pool for future vacancies.

Requirements

  • A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum five (5) years' experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and coordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering and architecture.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
  • Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training and certification required to stay current on regulations and industry standards and as by corporate policy.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential.
  • Work evenings, nights and weekends and/or holidays as necessary.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions and at all hours of the day or night.
  • Site visits may involve exposure to different levels of construction at stations, parking lots, platforms, and railway corridors along with climbing ladders and scaffolding and exposure to inclement weather.
  • A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence is required for regular site visits. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate.
  • This role requires frequent, regular and consistent site presence at project site locations, as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the project work of design, and construction aspects, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project lifecycle stages.
  • Coordinate reviews of project contractor’s site work plans and ground disturbance permits to minimize customer and Metrolinx revenue service impacts, ensure all internal and external approvals from stakeholders are obtained, and that reviews are completed timely and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
  • Coordinate project-specific requirements during the construction phase in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders such as the Construction Manager, and Technical Advisors.
  • Oversee site works and construction works, working directly with contractors on site, through coordination from the office, as well as site visits.
  • Work with Project Manager to manage risk, cost, schedule, permits and other performance indicators related to execution of the work.
  • Oversee and coordinate the project activities of the Construction Manager and utility companies to ensure compliance with Metrolinx standards, policies, and processes.
  • Provide on-site support for construction activities, including participation in site meetings, ensuring compliance with contract document management and safety compliance; and support during critical activities such as Major Track Closures.
  • Coordinate construction activities to minimize customer and operational impacts.
  • Ensure all required internal and external approvals are obtained prior to construction activities.
  • Monitor project progress to support timely completion within established budget and schedule constraints.
  • Support project completion, commissioning, and handover to the user group.
  • Assist in the preparation of project post-evaluation reports, including project cost analysis and lessons learned.
  • Prepare reports, logs, and presentations to various stakeholders and the management team on a regular basis, working collaboratively to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing risk reviews and schedule management. Identify and document potential risk impacts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to provide input into the development and implementation of risk mitigation plans. Coordinate and maintain commercial issues, change variations, and potential claims.
  • Prepare and submit tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts for submission to the Procurement Team for tendering. Assists Procurement Team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
  • Perform project administration such as coordinating submittal and RFI reviews, preparing change documents, assisting with invoice approvals, coordinating meetings (internal and external), attending meetings related to project or component and representing Metrolinx GO Transit at meetings with external agencies, Municipal Council committees and at public presentations or hearings as assigned.
