About The Position

WSP is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to join their Project Controls team in the WSP Buffalo, NY office. This individual will support Project Managers in planning, coordinating, and evaluating project financial reporting. The role involves reviewing Power BI and/or Tableau dashboards for project health and KPIs, understanding contract requirements, and collaborating with engineering teams to optimize project costs. The specialist will communicate project status and cost performance, maintain financial reports, review funding and procurement documentation, manage change orders, and assist with invoice review and collections. The position requires responsible and ethical decision-making and adherence to WSP’s Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or equivalent years of experience.
  • 3-5 years project controls or project accounting experience on large-scale projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to present clearly to stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a hybrid work environment and can manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Navigation of reporting & BI Tools: Power BI and/or Tableau.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, coordination, and evaluation of project financial reporting under the direction of Project Managers.
  • Review Power BI and/or Tableau dashboards to visualize project health and key performance indicators.
  • Understand contract requirements and ensure adherence to terms and conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and design teams to evaluate cost-saving options and recommend value-added changes to optimize project costs.
  • Communicate project status and cost performance to Project Managers.
  • Attend project review meetings with stakeholders.
  • Maintain financial reports for individual project subtasks and provide roll-up summary reports.
  • Review funding and procurement documentation to ensure conformance to approved project budgets.
  • Manage change order processes and assess the impact of proposed changes on project costs and schedules.
  • Assist Project Managers with invoice review and collections.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
