Project Controls Specialist (Cost Engineer and Control)
About The Position
WSP is seeking a Lead Project Controls Specialist (Cost Engineer and Control) to join their Project Controls team in New York, NY. This role involves collaborating with team members to achieve organizational goals, developing project cost breakdown structures and baseline budgets, monitoring actual project costs, and tracking potential changes to forecasted budgets. The specialist will establish methods to measure project progress, utilize project performance data to assess cost performance, and review invoices for accuracy, documentation, and compliance. They will manage project controls data using designated applications, develop project controls dashboards, prepare cost reports or presentations, and perform tasks related to progress reporting, including proofreading for consistency and accuracy. The role requires completing routine, frequent deadlines for project reports, collaborating with the project team to collect information, and providing finished reports in a timely manner. Maintaining accurate records and documentation with respect to contract compliance is also a key responsibility.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, data, business, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in construction project cost management and project controls.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in cost management software, project management tools, Power BI and relevant industry standards.
- Understanding of financial principles and budgeting practices.
- Confident self-starter with the ability to operate in a dynamic environment.
- Attention to detail and organization while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled at building and sustaining relationships with all stakeholders.
Nice To Haves
- Engineering and Construction industry experience preferred.
- Familiarity with project scheduling preferred.
Responsibilities

- Manage project controls data using designated applications or tools.

- Prepare cost reports or presentations.
- Perform a variety of tasks related to progress reporting, including proofreading for consistency and accuracy in reporting.
- Complete routine, frequent deadlines for a variety of project reports. Collaborate with project team to collect information and provide finished reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation with respect to contract compliance.
