About The Position

The Project Controls Specialist I coordinates and performs project control activities from pre-construction through execution and close-out. This role involves setting up projects in ERP and project management systems, developing and implementing project control plans, budgets, and cost breakdown structures. The specialist will manage project controls and timelines, monitor performance, quantity estimates, and claims, and provide regular progress updates. Key responsibilities include tracking earned value, costs, and schedules to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies, maintaining and overseeing change management procedures, and preparing various reports such as weekly productivity reports, month-end reporting packages, variance and forecast analysis, time-phased forecasts, and cash flow reports. The role also involves updating and monitoring project dashboards (e.g., Power BI), responding to ad-hoc data requests, and managing billing schedules and client invoicing processes. Additionally, the Project Controls Specialist I will participate in project meetings, review timelines, deliverables, and performance, and build strong relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and contractors. The role also includes developing and implementing project controls best practices.

Requirements

  • BS/BA in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or Construction Management (Minimum of 5 years of project controls experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree)
  • 1-3 years of project controls experience
  • Working knowledge of project controls and project management principles
  • Working knowledge to proficiency in computer applications such as financial tools, spreadsheets
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Project Accounting experience is a plus
  • Strong understanding of the full life cycle of a construction project
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English

Responsibilities

  • Set up projects in ERP and project management systems to track and analyze performance data
  • Develop and implement project control plans, budgets, and cost breakdown structures (CBS)
  • Manage project controls and timelines to ensure compliance with cost standards and financial regulations
  • Monitor performance, quantity estimates, and claims; providing regular progress updates to the project team
  • Track earned value, costs, and schedules to identify risks and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Maintain and oversee change management procedures, including review and approval of change orders to budget and revenue
  • Prepare weekly productivity reports and month-end reporting packages, including variance and forecast analysis
  • Maintain time-phased forecasts and cash flow reports
  • Update and monitor project dashboards (e.g., Power BI) and respond to ad-hoc data requests
  • Manage billing schedules and client invoicing processes
  • Participate in project meetings to review timelines, deliverables, and performance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, vendors, and contractors
