Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Project Controls Director to join our team in the Houston, TX area. The Project Controls Director is responsible for managing all project controls activities, efforts, and personnel across all construction projects within Turner Industries' Western Region. This role ensures the delivery of defined project outputs on time, within budget, and with quality results, by planning, organizing, monitoring, and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously. The Director will work closely with all departments to guide efforts toward achieving intended business results and will report directly to the Vice President of Construction. This role demands a strong understanding of foundational estimating principles and the integration of these principles throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Managing all project controls activities, efforts, and personnel across all construction projects within Turner Industries' Western Region.
  • Ensuring the delivery of defined project outputs on time, within budget, and with quality results, by planning, organizing, monitoring, and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working closely with all departments to guide efforts toward achieving intended business results.
  • Representing the organization in internal/external meetings and industry groups (e.g., AACE, PMI, CII).
  • Driving continuous improvement of project controls standards, integrating lessons learned and industry best practices.
  • Staying current on trends, tools, and methodologies in estimating and project controls.
  • Leading and mentoring regional project controls teams, guiding performance, integration, and deliverables.
  • Assisting in team selection and providing input on performance evaluations in a matrix environment.
  • Promoting knowledge sharing and professional growth within the team.
  • Ensuring accurate project planning and estimating, linking scope, costs, and schedules.
  • Overseeing estimate development and validating alignment between estimating and control systems.
  • Managing change by reassessing scope, budget, and timeline based on evolving project conditions.
  • Directing financial oversight including budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Ensuring accounting processes, compliance, and documentation standards are followed.
  • Presenting financial reports and justifying budget impacts to stakeholders.
  • Leading the development, tracking, and analysis of project schedules, ensuring alignment with productivity and scope.
  • Identifying critical path activities and overseeing schedule adjustments as needed.
  • Guiding the integration of scheduling with cost and change control processes.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks using structured tools and workshops.
  • Maintaining risk registers and ensuring proactive mitigation tied to initial estimates.
  • Resolving issues related to safety, quality, and client expectations.
  • Managing internal and external stakeholder relationships, ensuring transparent communication and alignment.
  • Coordinating vendor engagement, procurement, and change management to support business goals.
  • Involving subject matter experts in key decisions and reviews.
  • Defining and ensuring successful project closure with stakeholder buy-in and documentation.
  • Capturing lessons learned and contributing to organizational knowledge bases for future project success.
