About The Position

Hays Electrical Services is seeking a high-performing Project Controller to support large-scale commercial, multifamily, and mission-critical electrical projects across Texas and nationally. This role is critical to ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and at or above target margins. You’ll partner directly with Project Managers, field leadership, and executive teams to drive financial performance, cost control, and operational efficiency across complex builds. Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in project controls, project accounting, or cost control within construction
  • Understanding of Contracts, direct, indirect and overhead rates
  • Deep understanding of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and forecasting
  • Experience managing change orders and cost variance analysis
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, forecasting models, financial tracking)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both field teams and executive leadership

Nice To Haves

  • Strong preference for experience with an electrical contractor or specialty subcontractor
  • Proven experience supporting commercial, multifamily, or mission-critical projects (data centers, healthcare, etc.)
  • Experience with tools like Procore, Viewpoint Vista, or similar ERP systems

Responsibilities

  • Own project financials from kickoff through closeout across multiple electrical construction projects
  • Develop and maintain cost forecasts, budgets, and variance analysis
  • Lead monthly WIP reporting, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and margin tracking
  • Partner with Project Managers to identify financial risks and implement corrective actions
  • Track and analyze labor productivity and job cost performance
  • Manage the change order process (pricing, tracking, approvals, and impact to budget)
  • Monitor subcontractor and vendor costs, ensuring alignment with project budgets
  • Support billing, cash flow forecasting, and collections
  • Build and maintain financial dashboards and reporting tools for leadership visibility
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, financial controls, and internal processes
