The Project Controller manages the financial aspects of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role partners closely with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to monitor budgets, analyze financial performance, and deliver actionable insights to support project success.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of project accounting principles, including budgeting, forecasting, job cost tracking, revenue recognition, and financial reporting.
  • Experience supporting Project Managers with cost-to-complete forecasting, project financial reviews, and analysis of project performance.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and communicate project-related financial risks, including productivity, labor, material, and cost impacts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • High level of attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project teams while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive financial information.
  • Experience managing and tracking change orders, risks, and events throughout the project lifecycle, including evaluating financial impacts and assisting project teams with documentation and reporting.
  • Proven ability to support project financial health through cost analysis, forecasting, and proactive identification of project risks and opportunities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite, including financial modeling, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Experience partnering with Project Managers and Operations teams to support project execution and financial success.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project accounting experience within construction, engineering, specialty contracting, or a related project-based industry preferred.
  • Direct experience supporting large-scale construction projects, including involvement in change order management, project forecasting, and cost-to-complete analysis.
  • Experience identifying and monitoring project risks related to labor productivity, materials, subcontractors, and budget performance.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of construction project accounting systems and financial reporting tools preferred.
  • Experience supporting mission critical, data center, industrial, or other complex construction projects is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the financial liaison for assigned projects, supporting Project Management with accurate and timely reporting.
  • Oversee project accounting activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking actual costs against budgets.
  • Prepare detailed financial reports on project performance in alignment with accounting standards.
  • Manage project-related billing processes and perform reconciliations.
  • Analyze project costs, identify variances, and provide detailed explanations to stakeholders.
  • Compile and evaluate financial data to support operational decision-making.
  • Perform return-on-investment analyses for capital expenditures and provide recommendations.
  • Ensure all project financial activities adhere to company policies, accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate and improve project accounting processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Identify financial risks associated with projects and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with project managers and cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
  • Communicate with customers regarding billing, costs, and audit requests.
  • Represent the organization professionally, upholding high standards of integrity and ethics.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
