About The Position

Under the general direction of the Assistant City Manager of Mobility, this position is responsible for complex administrative assignments in support of the implementation of Project Connect, including collaboration and problem solving among many different stakeholders, coordination of document review and comment resolution, and review and approval of permits among many City departments. This position is responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of urban planning principles and transportation engineering principals, processes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of research techniques, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of modern methods, techniques, and concepts as applied to the design and construction of public works projects.
  • Knowledge of applicable titles of State statues, County health regulations, and City codes and ordinances as they relate to the management of complex architectural projects.
  • Knowledge of design principles, techniques, and tools involved in the production and use of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of related professional disciplines.
  • Ability to organize and implement comprehensive administrative programs.
  • Ability to understand complex issues and foster compromise and daily interaction with all divisions and City departments/offices.
  • Ability to perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities.
  • Ability to gather pertinent facts, make thorough analyses, arrive at sound conclusions, and formulate effective action plans.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and/or the public.
  • Ability to direct and evaluate personnel in the accomplishment of goals and objectives and demonstrated ability to manage priorities and workloads.
  • Ability to present the department’s position and policies and respond to inquiries from City Council and City management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at many levels inside the organization, with outside agencies, and with the community.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints in accordance with established polices and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with City employees and the public.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field public or business administration, government management, architecture, engineering, or a related field, plus ten (10) years of experience in public administration and research, or construction management.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates, directs, plans, and coordinates with City departments and partner agencies; assigns projects and programmatic areas of responsibility as required.
  • Seeks and evaluates information from a variety of divisions, departments, and/or other entities; identifies and resolves issues.
  • Recommends and coordinates implementation of project management and process improvements that affect a variety of divisions, departments, and/or agencies that address new or systemic issues or inefficiencies.
  • Ensures effective coordination and communication with City departments and partner agency staff, neighborhood associations, the general public, media, consultants, public agencies, or private sector representatives.
  • Consults with City management to ensure program, projects, and associated activities are planned and implemented in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
  • Acts as official representative and liaison for the Project Connect program to other City departments, Austin City Manager’s Office, elected officials, outside agencies, the general public, and others; explains, justifies, and defends programs, procedures, and activities; and negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant, and controversial issues.
  • Performs research; participates in the development of reports, special project status reports, and feasibility reports; and makes presentations as required.
