About The Position

We are seeking a remote Project Chemist to join our team! You will be responsible for verification and validation of analytical data, data quality reporting, and coordination of analytical services. This position will support Bay West’s Senior Project Chemist, Project Managers, Project/Field Staff, Database Administrators, and laboratory and validation subcontractors.

Requirements

  • Must have a BS/BA in Chemical, environmental, biological sciences, physical sciences, or engineering from an accredited institution with at least 30 semester hours in chemistry supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours of physics. An advanced degree in one of the listed disciplines may be substituted for equivalent experience.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' professional experience at an environmental analytical laboratory.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' professional experience completing data validation for environmental data.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years' professional experience with relational databases and environmental software formats including FUDSChem Staged Electronic Data Deliverables (SEDD), ERPIMS, NIRIS, and ERIS.
  • Understanding of American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM), Standard Methods (SM), and USEPA environmental analytical methods and data relationships such as field and lab quality control samples, significant figures, validation, qualifiers, multiple runs, etc.
  • Responsiveness to co-workers is essential. Candidate must be able to work collaboratively with a team in the delivery of solutions to challenging technical projects.
  • Excellent communication (written, and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to be self-directed and work independently, as well as a team-player.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Strong time-management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of EQuIS software is a plus.
  • Understanding of environmental field collection methods, testing, and sampling techniques such as low-flow, hydra sleeve, scoop and trowel, SUMMA, incremental, and discrete sample types is a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER/current 8-hour refresher is a plus.
  • Possesses analytical problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Performing Stage 1 through Stage 4 data validation and preparing detailed data validation reports following data validation guidance such as Department of Defense (DoD) General Data Validation Guidelines, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) National Functional Guidelines, and project quality assurance project plans (QAPPs).
  • Preparing analytical chemistry sections of Uniform Federal Policy (UFP)-QAPPs, Sampling and Analysis Plans (SAPs), and project work plans.
  • Preparing Quality Control Summary Reports (QCSRs) and Data Quality Evaluations (DQEs).
  • Assisting with project data management, acquisition, and upload into government databases such as FUDSChem, ERPIMS, NIRIS, or ERIS., as well as other environmental data management software when needed.
  • Coordinating with subcontracted laboratories and/or data validators for project sampling and analysis including data tracking, project timelines, troubleshooting, compliance, and quality requirements for the project.
  • Coordinating analytical services with Project Teams.
