About The Position

AECOM Buildings + Places is seeking a Project Architect to lead transdisciplinary teams in delivering projects for their Social Infrastructure and Transit Market Sectors in Calgary. This role involves shaping cities, communities, and the future by leveraging AECOM's architectural practices to service new markets and clients in Alberta and the surrounding region. The position is for an existing role within the team and offers a career-defining opportunity to build a collaborative practice that impacts how communities live, move, and thrive. The Project Architect will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and control of architectural commissions from inception through completion, working on a variety of project typologies including master plans for public sector campuses, public safety and justice facilities, municipal operations centers, First Nations buildings, laboratory buildings, park amenity buildings, transportation infrastructure, and transit operations facilities. The role emphasizes fostering creativity, driving design excellence by combining complex engineering systems with architecture, and ensuring quality from proposal through completion. The Project Architect will also collaborate nationally, working on projects across Canada and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture or related field focusing on building design along with six (6) years of relevant experience.
  • Registered Architect in Alberta and/or British Columbia.
  • Proven track record in managing both people and projects at all stages, direct staff, and coordinate consultants.
  • History of mentoring staff, junior professionals or volunteer activities that develop leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated experience transforming client ambitions into project execution.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive professional public sector building experience, with a focus on the project typologies listed above.
  • Proven abilities in technical design, report writing, and winning proposals.
  • Demonstrate preparation of high quality contract documents, specifications, cost estimates, change orders and site inspections.
  • Evidence of using technology to deliver technical excellence (ie. Autodesk Revit and CAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office and 3D modeling and rendering applications such as Rhino 3D, Enscape or others.

  • Act as the driving force of transdisciplinary teams delivering work for our Social Infrastructure and Transit Market Sectors.
  • Be responsible for the overall planning, coordination, and control of architectural commissions from inception through completion.
  • Apply genuine excitement, enthusiasm, and creativity for public sector buildings that help drive user and employee wellness, satisfaction and productivity.
  • Work on challenging assignments where design excellence is achieved by combining complex building engineering systems with architecture that “solves multiple problems at once.”
  • Develop winning ideas that capture the imagination of our clients at the proposal stage.
  • Direct projects from inception through completion and may serve as the Authenticating Professional on deliverables.
  • Guide the team to drive quality, scope, budget, and schedule, while meeting our client's expectations and AECOM’s Client Promise.
  • Coordinate building and site disciplines to deliver fully integrated design solutions at every milestone.
  • Dissolve siloes alongside the Project Manager and Project Principal to foster a high-performing, positive and collaborative studio culture.
