About The Position

New North Citizens’ Council is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for residents through education, workforce development, family support, and community services. NNCC is committed to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive service delivery. The Project AMP Peer Mentor provides mentorship and positive youth development services to adolescents ages 13–17 participating in Project AMP, a substance use prevention and early intervention program. Reporting to the program supervisor, the Peer Mentor builds supportive relationships with youth, facilitates structured mentoring sessions, and encourages healthy decision-making, academic success, and personal growth through evidence-based mentoring practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working or volunteering with adolescents in mentoring, education, recreation, youth development, or community programs.
  • Applicants must be between 21 and 28 years of age, consistent with Project AMP program requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college coursework in Human Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred
  • Experience facilitating youth groups, workshops, or mentoring programs.
  • Training in Positive Youth Development, Trauma-Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, or substance use prevention.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse and underserved youth populations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop positive, supportive relationships with youth participants.
  • Facilitate a minimum of six (6) structured Project AMP mentoring sessions with each assigned participant.
  • Encourage healthy decision-making, goal setting, and positive social development.
  • Support youth in developing life skills, communication skills, and healthy peer relationships.
  • Serve as a positive role model and mentor through consistent engagement and encouragement.
  • Assist with recruiting and engaging eligible youth participants.
  • Plan and facilitate educational, recreational, and skill-building activities that align with Project AMP goals.
  • Support workshops and group activities focused on substance use prevention, health and wellness, academic success, and personal development.
  • Participate in community events and outreach activities that promote Project AMP.
  • Maintain accurate participant records and required program documentation.
  • Track mentoring sessions, participant progress, and program outcomes.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and program planning activities.
  • Collaborate with program staff, schools, families, and community partners to support participant success.
  • Participate in required trainings related to positive youth development, mentoring, trauma-informed care, substance use prevention, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold NNCC policies, confidentiality standards, and ethical practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
