About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Project Accountant to join our growing team in Sussex, Wisconsin. The Project Accountant will be responsible for monitoring the financial performance of projects, managing project budgets, tracking costs, supporting billing activities, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have strong accounting expertise, excellent organizational skills, and experience working in project-based environments such as construction, engineering, manufacturing, or professional services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in project accounting, construction accounting, or job-cost accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with project costing, budgeting, billing, and revenue recognition.
  • Proficiency in ERP and accounting software systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain project financials from project initiation through completion.
  • Track project costs, labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and budget performance.
  • Prepare and review customer invoices, progress billings, and contract billing schedules.
  • Analyze project profitability and provide financial reporting to project managers and leadership.
  • Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and cost control initiatives.
  • Reconcile project-related accounts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate reporting of project status and financial performance.
  • Review contracts and customer agreements to ensure compliance with billing terms and project accounting requirements.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses.
  • Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as required.
  • Maintain accurate records within accounting and ERP systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy.
