About The Position

The Project Accountant will work 100% onsite Monday through Friday in Downtown Seattle, WA, focusing primarily on accounts payable and some accounts receivable for construction projects. This role manages union payroll for a growing number of project employees, ensures accurate accounting records, supports monthly and annual close processes, and assists with internal and external audits. The position uses JD Edwards (JD E) ERP systems along with construction-focused tools such as Textura, B2G Now, Report Now, and Procore to support project billing, job costing, and public works reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • 3–5 years of related construction accounting experience, ideally in project accounting and construction AP/AR.
  • Hands-on experience with project accounting, construction accounting, project billing, progress billing, lien and retention processes, and job costing.
  • Proficiency with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payment processing in a construction environment.
  • Experience processing union payroll and working with contractors and subcontractors on public works projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret financial data and project reports.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with project teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, including daily use of vlookups and pivot tables.
  • Proficiency using JD E (JD Edwards) or similar ERP systems for accounting and project financial management.
  • Strong reporting and analysis skills using Excel and other reporting tools.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with construction-focused accounting software such as Sage 100 Contractor, Sage 100, Sage 300, Timberline, or NetSuite.
  • Familiarity with Textura for construction payment management and progress billing; Textura experience is considered a plus.
  • Experience with B2G Now and public works reporting requirements.
  • Experience using Procore and Report Now for contract review, project reporting, and documentation management.
  • Background working with contractors and subcontractors on construction and public works projects.
  • Strong customer service orientation when working with internal teams and external partners.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented construction environment with evolving project demands.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and process project-related accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions using JD E ERP and construction accounting systems.
  • Perform union payroll processing weekly for approximately 5–15 employees, with the potential for an increased employee count as new projects begin.
  • Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
  • Assist with monthly and annual financial close processes, including preparation of consolidated financial statements.
  • Perform complex reconciliations, including liability account roll forwards and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries, and correct accounting posting errors in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and reconciliations as requested.
  • Work with Textura, Report Now, B2G Now, and Procore software to support project accounting, contract review, and reporting activities.
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing project-related reports such as progress billings, lien restrictions, retention bonds, and other time-sensitive reporting requirements.
  • Handle construction accounts payable activities including job costing, billing, and payment processing for contractors and subcontractors.
  • Use Excel daily, including vlookups and pivot tables, to analyze data, prepare reports, and support project financial management.
  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to provide responsive customer service and resolve accounting and billing inquiries.
  • Review project contracts and related documentation within Procore systems to ensure accurate billing, retention, and lien compliance.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while working independently to support ongoing and new public works and construction projects.
