About The Position

Project Accountant 📍 Gainesville, VA Are you an accounting professional who enjoys partnering with operations, managing project financials, and driving visibility into project performance? We are partnering with a growing organization seeking a Project Accountant to support financial oversight across a portfolio of projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with project accounting, cost accounting, construction accounting, or FP&A experience who wants a highly visible role working directly with project leaders and business stakeholders.

Requirements

2+ years of experience in project accounting, cost accounting, construction accounting, or FP&A.
Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and project financial analysis.
Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting processes.
Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to partner across departments.

Nice To Haves

Experience with project accounting or construction-related ERP systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

Own the financial integrity of project budgets, forecasts, and cost reporting.
Partner with project managers to analyze project performance and profitability.
Manage purchase order tracking, reconciliation, and project-related financial reporting.
Prepare and distribute monthly customer billings while supporting collections activities.
Perform month-end and year-end project close processes.
Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and cost-at-completion reporting.
Analyze project costs, identify variances, and provide actionable recommendations.
Reconcile project-level profit and loss statements and support operational decision-making.
Prepare contract-required financial reports and other project performance analyses.
Collaborate with accounting and operations teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
