About The Position

The Project Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting and financial analysis of government contracts. This includes billing, managing accounts receivable, and cash flow forecasting. The Senior Project Accountant will also perform project analysis, work closely with operations managers to explain variances and make adjustments where necessary. Responsibilities will also include expense and revenue accruals, cost allocations, and other month-end close procedures. In addition to having primary responsibility for assigned projects, the Project Accountant will serve as backup for projects assigned to other project accountants and assist in the reconciliation of General Ledger accounts and compilation of financial statements.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent
  • 5-10+ years of progressive accounting responsibilities
  • Minimum two years in project/contract accounting, government contract accounting preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Must be able to successfully pass as required a federal, state, or local government's background investigation

Nice To Haves

  • knowledge of FAR and CAS preferred
  • Experience with JAMIS Prime a plus
  • Advanced MS Excel a plus

Responsibilities

  • Updates accounting system billing and revenue recognition to reflect contract modifications
  • Tracks project billing and funding utilization
  • Prepares invoices for customers and, following customers’ procedures, submits said invoices for approvals and payments
  • Posts payments received to the accounting system and manages AR aging balances
  • Perform project profitability analyses, troubleshooting variances and providing commentary for job performance
  • Works closely with Project Managers and other field personnel with reporting, training, and analysis
  • Employs problem-solving skills and financial analysis
  • Develops working knowledge of government contract requirements
  • All work in compliance with FAR, GAAP, and company cost accounting policies and procedures
  • Assists with special projects as needed and performs other duties as required.
