About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our growing construction team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience within the New York City construction industry and possess strong knowledge of project accounting, certified payroll, union reporting requirements, and public agency compliance. This position will work closely with project managers, estimators, field personnel, and senior management to ensure accurate financial reporting and contract compliance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of project accounting experience within the NYC construction industry.
  • Proven experience preparing and managing certified payroll.
  • Strong knowledge of prevailing wage regulations.
  • Experience working with union labor agreements and union benefit reporting.
  • Experience with NYC public agencies, including contract compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of construction accounting principles and job cost accounting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction accounting software.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience with agencies such as the NYC School Construction Authority (SCA), NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC), NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA), Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Port Authority, or other public-sector entities.
  • Experience with AIA billing and WIP reporting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Sage300

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of project accounting for multiple construction projects.
  • Prepare, review, and submit certified payroll reports in accordance with federal, state, and local prevailing wage requirements.
  • Process and reconcile union payroll, union benefit contributions, and union remittances.
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, commitments, and job profitability.
  • Prepare monthly project cost reports and work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
  • Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, insurance certificates, and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with contract billing, including AIA billing and requisition preparation.
  • Track change orders, purchase orders, and subcontract agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements of NYC public agencies and government-funded projects.
  • Coordinate audits related to prevailing wage, certified payroll, union benefits, and public agency contracts.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Maintain accurate project records and accounting documentation.
  • Collaborate with project management teams to analyze project financial performance and identify cost-saving opportunities.
