About The Position

Willdan Engineering, a subsidiary of Willdan Group, Inc., is seeking a Project Accountant I for our Anaheim, CA office. The Project Accountant is a vital part of the project accounting team for Willdan Engineering, responsible for project setup, revenue recognition, billing, and supporting assigned project managers. The ideal candidate should have expertise in project accounting and revenue recognition for consulting businesses, with a positive, team-oriented attitude. Experience with Deltek Costpoint ERP or similar project accounting systems is preferred. This role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, the ability to multitask and prioritize, and the capacity to work independently. A collaborative team player, the Project Accountant will work closely with leadership and staff to ensure smooth operation of the accounting system.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • 1-3 years’ professional accounting experience.
  • Experience managing deadlines and multiple collaborators in a fast-paced environment.
  • GAAP and SOX experience.
  • A proven team player with strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills and critical thinking skills.
  • High proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
  • Discretion in handling sensitive/confidential business information.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks to ensure timely delivery of high-quality deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders while delivering excellent customer service in a highly dynamic growth environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced, evolving, entrepreneurial work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in project accounting is highly desired.
  • Previous experience with Deltek Costpoint or other project (cost) accounting system.

Responsibilities

  • Setting up new projects in compliance with revenue recognition standards and contract language.
  • Performing monthly revenue recognition, billing, and financial closing.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate recording of time and expenses to jobs, including subcontractor invoices.
  • Performing month-end expense accruals for incurred costs.
  • Ensuring accurate matching of purchase orders and subcontracts to subsequent invoices.
  • Ensuring timely and accurate billing to customers and assisting in collection efforts.
  • Reviewing revenue calculations and ensuring timely submission to corporate accounting.
