Programmer

UNC-Chapel Hill•Chapel Hill, NC

About The Position

Work in the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill Department of Epidemiology on a project aimed at developing software and analytic tools to perform disease modeling and critical analytics in response to infectious disease outbreaks. The ideal candidates will have experience in general-purpose and scientific programming languages (e.g., R, Python, C) and an ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a large scientific team. Efforts will focus on implementing predictive and analytic models of infectious disease, deploying these models in response to disease threats, and implementing accessible data displays on web-based dashboards. This position will collaborate with a dynamic network of scientists and public health practitioners to lead the development of solutions to problems that have direct impacts on population health. Successful candidates will join the newly formed Atlantic Coast Center for Infectious Disease Dynamics and Analytics (ACCIDDA). ACCIDDA is part of the newly formed CDC-funded national network of centers of excellence for Outbreak Analytics and Disease Modeling (OADM), named Insight Net. ACCIDDA includes the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, the University of Florida and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. In addition to being a Center of Innovation, ACCIDDA serves as the coordinating center for Insight Net. Work with this center will provide numerous opportunities to work with other Insight Net centers and public health partners, as well as have a direct impact on the work of the CDC Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics.
