About The Position

Reporting to the Coordinator, Community Programs, this position is responsible for the development, administration, and operation of the City’s sports leagues and tournaments. The primary focus would be on underserviced areas / sports within the cricket, basketball, soccer, dodgeball, ultimate frisbee, hockey, pickleball, and volleyball areas that complement the services offered by the Affiliate Sports Groups. Liaises with internal staff and external facility user groups on a regular basis with a high level of customer service. Develop marketing tactics and communication strategies aimed at increasing program offerings and revenue. Coordinate with Facility Scheduler and programming team to identify and resolve potential scheduling conflicts and/or issues; ensuring customer and business needs are met. Recruit, hire, train, schedule and supervise league convenors, officials and timekeepers. Evaluate training needs, and manage execution of staff trainings, orientations and meetings. Equipment inventory and purchases as necessary for league equipment and facility needs. Research and stay up-to-date on new trends and rules in related sports. Proactively plan for additional sport offerings and ways to expand leagues. Program, league and tournament planning, scheduling, and communicating accurate and up to date facility space information. Collaboration with the Marketing team on ways to promote the leagues and communicate updates. Liaises with other departments and staff to ensure facility operations are coordinated to support user group needs. Provides oversight and supervision on site to ensure league operations are running efficiently. Conducts quality assurance site visits to facilities as required. Collaborate with related National, Provincial, and City sport organizations ensuring that industry standards and necessary sanctioning expectations are adhered to. Exercises decision making to ensure user issues are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner. Collects and prepares statistics, analysis and benchmarking as required. Provides input into the development and/or redevelopment of community sports fields, arenas, meeting rooms, gymnasiums and fieldhouses. Review and maintain related budgets. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in a related field (i.e. Recreation and Leisure Services, Sports Management, Business Administration, Management, or Public Administration or related field).
  • Over three (3) years of experience in sports league/tournament delivery or related.
  • Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of various sports rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Proficiency at a minimum intermediate level with Microsoft Office Suite products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Prior experience with staff management, hiring, and oversight.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Superior time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience using PerfectMind software is highly desired.
