Programmer Developer II or Senior
About The Position
Southwest Power Pool (SPP) is seeking a talented Programmer Developer to join our IT Markets team. This role is crucial for supporting and maintaining mission-critical applications essential for SPP’s System Operations team in overseeing the bulk electric grid and wholesale power markets. The IT Markets team is responsible for the performance, optimization, and reliability of these applications. In this role, you will optimize the performance and efficiency of various applications and processes, collaborate with subject matter experts across the IT department to develop and implement technical solutions, and provide support for the real-time Market Operating System. You will also participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for continuous operation and troubleshooting. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on impactful, mission-critical applications and contribute to the reliable functioning of systems vital to the operation of the electric grid and wholesale power markets.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an Information Technology-related field or equivalent job-related experience
- Senior Level: Six (6) years of applicable Information Technology development and support experience; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Level II: Three (3) years of Information Technology Development/Support experience
- Expert working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, UNIX or Linux operating systems, application development and support, and database management systems
- Expert in one or more modern programming languages
- Expert troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills
- Expert written and oral communication skills
- Expert working knowledge of SDLC and project life cycle methods and practices
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills
- Understanding of and compliance with SPP Policies and Procedures
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Nice To Haves
- Five (5) or more years applicable utility industry experience
- Comprehensive understanding of SPP’s core business model
