About The Position

The Programme Lead – Biosecurity Emerging Threats is responsible for managing the design and delivery of the Taranaki Regional Council’s new and emerging pest work programme. This includes providing leadership for field activities associated with the following; delivery of the Regional Biosecurity Strategy and the Regional Pest Management Plan for Taranaki under the Biosecurity Act 1993. The Programme Lead – Biosecurity Emerging Threats will lead the design and implementation of programmes focusing on new to region and low incidence pest programmes, oversee the delivery of biosecurity and predator free advocacy programmes, and lead and coordinate a team, managing performance, setting clear expectations, and providing mentoring and development opportunities. The position also contributes to the strategic leadership and direction of the Environment Services team and implementation of the Council's strategic and operational plans. In addition, the position leads and grows a team of 5 direct reports by providing vision and purpose, setting expectations and work programmes that are aligned with the Taranaki Regional Council’s strategic direction.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Biosecurity Management or a similar field
  • At least five years’ experience in Biosecurity/Pest Management leadership role, preferably in local government environment.
  • Proactive and effective leadership, motivational and supervisory skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 1993, biosecurity pathways and risks and of pest control and biosecurity surveillance techniques and protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of programmes focusing on new to region and low incidence pest programmes.
