About The Position

This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position that involves supervising food packing shifts, coordinating facility maintenance and projects, and delivering engaging volunteer experiences. The role requires upholding safety policies, performing cleaning and warehousing tasks, and serving as the person in charge in the absence of management. The position is based in Aurora, IL, and reports to the Site Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience is required.
  • Able to coach and direct the work of others.
  • Able to present to and engage with large groups of volunteers and supporters.
  • Self-starter able to independently make decisions, perform tasks, and solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Thrives in a team setting; able to pitch in, fill in gaps, remain flexible, ask for help, and share responsibilities.
  • Able to exert yourself physically for a 4-8 hour shift.
  • Able to walk and stand in intervals up to 4 hours.
  • Able to push, pull, lift 30-50 lbs. repeatedly, bend, twist, and use hand tools like utility knives.
  • Enthusiastic, assertive, and confident when sharing information with groups and individuals.
  • Focused on hospitality: recognize and meet volunteer needs.
  • Able to build rapport and maintain relationships.
  • Respect and value FMSC’s volunteers and supporters, varying in beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities.
  • Able to tolerate consistent exposure to soy (an allergen).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise food packing operations during scheduled shifts, delegating tasks and ensuring adherence to FMSC policies and procedures from setup to cleanup.
  • Model excellent work performance and encourage high performance from staff, providing on-the-spot coaching to peers.
  • Serve as the site point of contact for all facility-related needs, coordinating with property management, vendors, the Site Manager, and Project Manager.
  • Monitor and address facility maintenance needs, coordinate repairs and projects within scope and budget, maintain accurate records and payments, and communicate updates.
  • Partner with Program Supervisor – Safety and Compliance to maintain safety standards and support facility inspections, audits, and regulatory compliance.
  • In the absence of management, serve as an on-site contact for food safety, quality assurance, and occupational safety questions and emergencies.
  • Create a welcoming and impactful volunteer experience through public speaking and one-on-one interactions, sharing FMSC’s mission and impact stories, promoting campaigns and MarketPlace™ items, and expressing appreciation.
  • Orchestrate packing sessions, anticipating needs, troubleshooting problems, and being flexible with a volunteer workforce.
  • Clean, track production, direct volunteers, palletize boxes, and move pallets using a pallet jack.
  • Lead a Christian prayer over the packaged food and invite volunteers to join.
  • Maintain a clean and food-safe facility by doing laundry and cleaning floors, dishes, and bathrooms several times per day.
  • Uphold food safety, food quality, volunteer safety, and personnel safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance.
  • Act as a backup forklift driver (training provided), if needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
