About The Position

The Program Specialist works with residents to ensure their programming needs are met and reports directly to the Program Manager. The role supports resident programming, treatment, documentation, and communication with other departments while adhering to STAR policies and applicable standards. Staff in this position are evaluated on the 90th day, at six months, at one year, and annually thereafter. Evaluations cover administrative skills, work ethic, and position-specific skills, including knowledge of STAR’s treatment model, teaching effectiveness, behavioral reinforcement and redirection, intervention strategies, resident advocacy, therapeutic alliance, and self-efficacy development. Duties may include other job-related tasks assigned by management or a supervisor, subject to reasonable accommodation. All positions serve at the pleasure of the STAR Facility Governing Board.

Requirements

At minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in a human service or criminal justice field and/or a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Experience in case management, corrections, behavioral health, or social services.
Familiarity with evidence-based practices, risk/needs assessments, and re-entry programming.

Responsibilities

Know and adhere to STAR’s policies and procedures.
Coordinate and communicate with other departments as needed.
Ensure the department’s continuous compliance with ACA, PREA, departmental CBCF, and BCS standards.
Provide reinforcers and corrective actions to STAR residents as needed to meet the 4:1 ratio.
Conduct classes weekly.
Conduct individual sessions to address barriers identified within the program.
Document information appropriately within 24 hours.
Complete detailed and individualized case notes.
Attend House Meetings for the assigned house to relay pertinent information regarding resident progress and concerns.
Suggest ways to improve programming for residents.
Complete other jobs assigned by management.
