About The Position

The City of Torrance is recruiting for Program Specialists to be part of the Torrance Theater Company Team! The Community Services Department offers Torrance residents the unique opportunity to help achieve a sense of purpose, identity, self-worth and improved self-esteem within the specialized areas of Cultural Arts, Library, Parks and Recreation. The Community Services Department is committed to providing quality services, activities, programs and facilities for all those who live, learn, work and play in the City of Torrance. Under direction, Program Specialists are generally in charge of a site or a major program. Program Specialists assist in planning, directing and implementing program activities and lead and supervise recurrent staff and participants. This is a recurrent, part-time, non-civil service, as needed position. Program Specialists assigned to the Torrance Theatre Company will need to be available at peak times to assist with program logistics. Staff will assist with various production elements including creating sets, procuring/making props, marketing, social media, administrative work, and box office.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or equivalent
  • One year of recent part-time work experience directly related to recreation or community programs and services.
  • Negative tuberculin test.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's degree in a related field is desirable.
  • Certification in Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is desirable.
  • Experience in marketing on social media platforms, with photography, video and/or graphic design (Canva, etc)
  • Knowledge of basic scenic construction, scenic painting, design, or sound design for theater (QLab)
  • Experience with box Office software (Easy Ware) is preferred.
