About The Position

Kern Medical is seeking a temporary Program Specialist to perform specialized paraprofessional activities in support of a program. This role involves providing advocacy, assessing client needs, preparing service plans, training lower-level staff, serving as a liaison, and interpreting programs locally. The position is extra-help employment with a limited term of up to 9 months, and health benefits coverage may be offered. This is the second level in a five-level program series, working with minimum supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of education, training and/or experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job
  • Qualifying related work experience may include: verifying documents to determine eligibility for benefits, social services and/or employment, conducting needs assessments; making referrals for services; interviewing clients, and providing program information to the public.
  • Volunteer experience may be qualifying if confirmed in writing from a recognized organization.

  • Some positions may require possession of a valid California Driver's License.
  • If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver's License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.
  • If position responsibilities require driving a vehicle owned, leased or rented by Kern Medical, then possession of a current valid California Driver's license, a signed authorization for Release of Drivers Record Information and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Developing individual program plans
  • Evaluating socioeconomic factors
  • Determining level of client readiness and program commitment
  • Maintaining accurate case files
  • Preparing progress reports
  • Evaluating and assessing participant needs and/or eligibility for services
  • Authorizing participation in programs
  • Recruiting potential participants into programs
  • Coordinating a variety of activities in assigned program area
  • Serving as a liaison with the community, local businesses, other agencies, internal divisions, and agency partners
  • Conducting research to keep abreast of latest developments in assigned area
  • Providing information and assistance to program participants, potential participants and/or other interested parties
  • Assisting program participants in completing required documents
  • Monitoring contracting agencies to ensure compliance with contract specifications
  • Performing individual and group orientations regarding program(s), benefits, and applicable participation requirements
  • Entering and retrieving a variety of data and information from databases
  • Preparing, processing, and maintaining a variety of records and reports
  • Collecting and distributing medical resident schedules
  • Performing other related duties as required
