About The Position

To coordinate, provide and make available desired expertise in the area of Exceptional Student Education to help schools achieve desired priorities in response to needs and disparities identified at the school and classroom level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Valid Florida teaching certificate or have applied to obtain a Florida teaching certificate required to include Exceptional Student Education certification preferred.
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience required.
  • One (1) year coaching or teacher leader experience to include leading professional learning and using coaching competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
  • Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization and management tasks.
  • Assist in directing and supervising the Exceptional Student Education Instructional Support staff in terms of their performance responsibilities and productivity in achieving district goals.
  • Develop, maintain and monitor a tracking system related to the Exceptional Student Education Instructional Support staff on referrals and case studies.
  • Provide, upon request, consultations to Exceptional Student Education Instructional Support staff on individual cases.
  • Serve as liaison with district Student Services unit to assure consistency of Exceptional Student Education Instructional Support and those functions required for district wide consistency and standardization.
  • Assist the Director or Senior Administrator to plan and direct a system of feedback and assessment of Exceptional Student Education Instructional Support staff to determine their responsiveness to the needs of the schools.
  • Facilitate communication with parents, students and staff resolving problems and critical issues.
  • Provide professional development for parents, schools, teachers or staff related to Exceptional Student Education
  • Keep the Director or Senior Administrator informed of critical issues and incidents within his/her area of responsibility about which the supervisor should be aware.
  • Develop and conduct Professional Development for teachers, classified staff, and administrators focusing on strategies designed to help them support the needs of their students with disabilities.
  • Provide district leadership through participation in collaborative working groups, including cross-department projects and initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to all HRMD guidelines the district’s instructional initiatives.
  • Follow the district’s policies and procedures as related to fixed assets.
  • Develop leadership in subordinates.
  • Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology being used by OCPS.
  • With the support of the district, attend training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
  • Responsible for maintaining timely and accurate information and accountable for the quality of information maintained by those they supervise.
  • Responsible for self-development and keeping up to date on current research, trends and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Provide accurate and actionable feedback to parents, schools, teachers, or staff
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
