Join our team as a Senior Quality Engineer (QE) supporting the Short and Medium Ground-Based Air Defense (SMGBAD) Business Area in Tucson, AZ. In this role, you will help drive a strong quality culture, reinforce disciplined processes, and enhance cross-functional collaboration. Your primary focus will be implementing strategic quality improvements within the Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI) Program. Reporting to the NGSRI Program Quality Manager, you will be responsible for executing Quality Assurance activities in alignment with the Quality Management System and the Quality Policy defined by the NGSRI contract. As the primary quality interface for product acceptance, you will ensure program acceptance packages meet all system performance and Quality & Mission Assurance requirements. This includes compiling acceptance packages, verifying completeness and compliance, coordinating with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), engineering, operations, and configuration management, and ultimately supporting customer acceptance reviews. Additional responsibilities may include monitoring quality metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives, partnering with cross-functional teams to reinforce process rigor, and supporting transition-to-production activities. You will conduct Production Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), First Article Inspections, and Quality Control Plan development, as well as contribute to Material Review Board (MRB), Change Control Board (CCB), and Risk Review Board (RRB) activities. This role operates as part of a collaborative Quality Assurance team, engaging daily with key stakeholders across the organization. This is an “Onsite” role based in Tucson, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a university degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and minimum 3 years’ experience
  • Relevant experience is quality, engineering, operations, program management or manufacturing.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management Systems.
  • Working experience translating external and/or internal requirements and command media.
  • Experience organizing technical/quality documentation (e.g. quality plans, reports, customer documentation, etc.) into structured compliant review packages
  • Experience reading and interpreting design drawings
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement processes and/or root cause corrective action (RCCA) for issue mitigation
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.​ U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma, Lean, and/or American Society for Quality (ASQ) certifications (IE: ISO9001 and/or AS9100).
  • Experience in Quality Assurance, Internal Auditing and RCCA (Root Cause Corrective Action) methodologies, Process Improvement, flows, mapping and streamlining.
  • Quality experience in functional areas such as engineering, supplier engineering, manufacturing, production, or operations.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Raytheon standard applications and databases including SAP, Windchill, PRism, and other enterprise data systems.
  • Experience using PFMEA, SPC, Control Plans, and Process Capability Assessments.
  • Experience in hardware inspections and inspection standards.
  • Experience using people skills and working with customers, suppliers, in a team environment, facilitating cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities.
  • Experience communicating verbally and in written communications and networking with other stakeholders while problem solving and creating resolutions with effective and concise presentation skill
  • Working experience in providing technical program expertise for manufacturing and/or design processes.
  • Experience developing and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Managing the product acceptance process for NGSRI creating the acceptance package documentation, reviewing data for completeness, accuracy and overall compliance with applicable customer requirements.
  • Quality Management System processes and process control documentation ensuring they are compliant with requirements, objectives and/or contracts while identifying issues, recommending solutions, and creating quality documentation.
  • Assist PM, Engineering & Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to define requirements for new products from a compliance and contractual perspective.
  • Aid Quality Working Groups to diagnose and mitigate product non-conformities identified internally and externally by driving RCCA and Non-Conformance Management to conclusion.
  • Provide advice to the area Lead and Program Managers on the quality aspects of the work being undertaken.
  • Understand Product Development Lifecycles to provide key Quality inputs during the different stages.
  • Perform audits of products and processes within a program or business
  • Engage on both strategic and tactical levels, focusing on quality, cost and schedule performance, early engagement, influencing and providing differentiating quality value to program teams and customers.
  • Develop partnerships with program and production leaders, IPTs, and other functions to drive issue resolution and implement improved processes.
  • Implement strategic and tactical Quality and Mission Assurance plans that will directly affect the program’s execution and influence.
  • Generate new Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ) projects to reduce costs on the program.
  • Guide Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) in accordance with AS9145, as applicable.
  • Provide Quality oversight to technical design organizations and perform program reviews.
  • Interpret command media in compliance to work being performed.
  • Possible domestic business travel as needed (10%)
