The Mellon Foundation is seeking a Program Officer for its Presidential Initiatives Monuments Project team. This role is crucial in advancing the Foundation's vision for the Monuments Project, translating it into effective grantmaking, strategic partnerships, and field-building activities. The Program Officer will play a leadership role in ensuring the successful implementation and evolution of this signature program. The Monuments Project aims to fund commemorative projects that add to the stories of American history, expand how we remember, and create a richer, more complete picture of the nation's past. It focuses on sparking interest in lesser-known historical chapters, involving more people in shaping the commemorative landscape, and expanding the definition of what monuments can be. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in commemorative landscapes, memorialization, public history, public art, cultural heritage, design, or planning, with a sophisticated understanding of the complex ecosystem required for commemorative projects. This includes experience working with various stakeholders such as government agencies, community organizations, cultural institutions, developers, and artists. Demonstrated experience in grantmaking, program design, and implementing large-scale initiatives is essential. The role requires strong judgment, strategic thinking, and a collaborative approach to bring multi-stakeholder projects to fruition.
