About The Position

The Program Officer (Green Technology Deployment, Partnerships & Impact) position is located in the Climate Change and Food Security Unit within the Office of the Assistant Director General, Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector (GCPS). This Unit collaborates with other UN and intergovernmental organizations, the private sector, and civil society to influence policy discussions, highlighting the advantages of innovation, technology, and intellectual property in tackling global issues like climate change. WIPO GREEN, established in 2013, functions as a global marketplace connecting providers and seekers of green technologies, aiming to facilitate technology deployment and diffusion. It features a database with over 140,000 entries, acceleration projects, a network of over 160 partners, green technology coalitions, and finance partnerships. The incumbent's role is to drive the implementation and scaling of acceleration projects, translating technology matches into tangible deployment outcomes, investment prospects, and measurable socio-economic impact. The focus is on strategic partnerships and financing, aligning with WIPO’s mission to utilize intellectual property and innovation ecosystems to address climate change and food security challenges.

Requirements

• First-level university degree in environmental or biological sciences, climate change, natural resource management, agricultural or food systems, development studies, international relations, or a related field.
• At least six years of relevant professional experience in fields related to global environmental issues such as climate change, food security, green technologies, technology deployment, or innovation ecosystems, with experience in developing country contexts.
• Demonstrated experience managing international or multi-stakeholder projects, including partnerships, funding, and project implementation.
• Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English.
• Good knowledge of climate change, food security, environmental sustainability, green technology, and innovation.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with diverse stakeholders in a multicultural environment, demonstrating sensitivity, diplomacy, and respect for diversity.
• Strong analytical skills, including results-based management and impact assessment.
• Proven drafting skills, with the ability to produce high-quality and professional social media content.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to pay attention to detail, work quickly and accurately under pressure, and to respect deadlines.
• Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to take initiatives and follow through on project deliverables.
• Proficiency in digital tools, AI-enabled applications, databases, information management systems, and online collaboration platforms.
• Commitment to continuous learning and the adoption of emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, coordinate with implementing partners, and support the scaling up of WIPO GREEN Acceleration Projects, including planning, resource management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on technology deployment, investment readiness, and measurable outcomes.
• Establish and manage project-related partnerships with governments, private sector entities, scaling partners, financial institutions, and international organizations to support project implementation and scale-up.
• Manage and monitor the performance of external consultants, suppliers, and implementing partners, ensuring compliance with organizational standards and achievement of agreed deliverables.
• Monitor and assess the performance of the Acceleration Project portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, and tracking effective implementation and results at project level.
• Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs), including technology deployment, financing mobilization, and socio-economic impact.
• Contribute to portfolio-level analysis and reporting, generating evidence-based insights to inform decision-making and improve program effectiveness.
• Support the integration of WIPO GREEN assets, including the database, partner network, and finance initiatives, into project delivery, facilitating linkages between technology providers, users, and financing partners to accelerate deployment and scaling.
• Contribute to the development of scalable programmatic approaches, including regional Green Technology Coalitions.
• Produce analytical inputs, case studies, and knowledge products demonstrating the role of intellectual property and innovation in addressing climate and food security challenges.
• Contribute to ecosystem mapping, technology scouting, and matchmaking activities to identify and advance deployment opportunities.
• Produce high-quality communications content, including social media posts, to increase the visibility of WIPO GREEN's activities, partnerships, and impact.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Benefits

• Annual salary consists of a net annual salary (net of taxes and before medical insurance and pension fund deductions) in US dollars and a post adjustment.
• The post adjustment multiplier (cost of living allowance) is variable and subject to change (increase or decrease) without notice.
• Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.
• Temporary appointments are renewable, subject to continuing needs, availability of budget and satisfactory performance with a maximum cumulative length of two years.
