About The Position

The Program Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care and medical case management to children served by the Italian Home for Children across all programs. Working collaboratively with the Pediatrician, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Psychiatrists, and multidisciplinary team members, the Program Nurse ensures the physical and emotional health needs of each child are met within a trauma-informed care framework. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of duties and responsibilities that will be required of positions given this title, but additional responsibilities may be required. Employees are expected to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

Requirements

  • A Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with valid Massachusetts licensure is required
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with children of a similar population
  • Commitment to the highest quality of care
  • Understanding and implementation of agency treatment philosophy
  • Sound and appropriate judgment
  • Creative, thoughtful and able to make good decisions quickly in crisis situations; respond to emergencies quickly and safely
  • Discretion regarding confidentiality of clients/their histories, families, and co-workers
  • Visual and hearing acuity to perform job related functions
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to provide therapeutic physical restraint when necessary
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, and lift up to 75 lbs as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Pediatric or psychiatric nursing experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage health issues of children, including medication administration and documentation of medical orders
  • Triage health needs across CBAT, residential, school, and after-school programs
  • Perform health assessments on new residents as required by licensing agencies.
  • Compile health histories and maintain comprehensive medical files for each resident.
  • Assist with scheduling, staff communication, and follow-up on recommendations
  • Provide health education to children on hygiene, wellness, and daily living skills
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for medical coverage
  • Collaborate and consult with childcare staff/supervisors regarding the medical needs of children
  • Communicate effectively with outside agencies, physicians, hospitals, pharmacies, and families
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support individualized treatment plans
  • Participate in supervision and weekly nursing team meetings, bringing forward evidence-based knowledge and clinical observations
  • Develop and deliver in-services on health topics, infection control, CPR/First Aid/AED, and other relevant medical issues
  • Ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations and organizational policies
  • Support a trauma-informed approach in all interactions with children and staff
  • Accurately document all medical, dental, and psychiatric information in the client’s chart and nursing software
  • Assist in coordinating discharge needs for group home and CBAT residents, including appointments and documentation
  • Assign daily duties to medical assistants as needed
  • Transport children to medical or dental appointments when required
