About The Position

Agile Defense is seeking experienced Program Managers, Deputy Program Managers, Senior Project Managers, and Project Managers to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) operations. This role involves managing technical projects within a complex, continuous operations environment where change windows are narrow and site access can be challenging. The ideal candidate will coordinate work across network, cloud, cybersecurity, and field deployment teams, manage customer commitments, and navigate federal change control and accreditation processes. This is not a role where the schedule is the primary focus; success depends on effectively managing dependencies, approvals, access, and site-specific realities. We are hiring across several levels and will discuss the best fit with candidates.

Requirements

  • Active CBP Background Investigation (CBP BI) and EOD strongly preferred; processing can begin for candidates without one.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Minimum Qualifications (specifics vary by level: Project Manager, Cloud Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, Deputy Program Manager, Program Manager).
  • Delivered technical work in a federal program where change control and accreditation set the pace.
  • Experience communicating bad news to a customer early and effectively.
  • Experience running delivery across teams without direct authority.
  • Experience taking over a behind-schedule project and implementing changes.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure, cloud, or security work sufficient to challenge estimates.
  • PMP, agile delivery certifications, or equivalent are useful but not a substitute for delivery experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Active CBP BI.
  • Fitness determination at another DHS component.
  • Active DoD clearance.
  • PMP certification.
  • Agile delivery certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Turn commitments into schedules that survive contact with a 24/7 environment, accounting for change windows and site access constraints.
  • Surface dependencies between network, cloud, security, and field teams before they cause delays.
  • Ensure estimates are derived from the people doing the work and are appropriately challenged.
  • Communicate schedule changes to the customer with clear reasons and options.
  • Provide the customer with an accurate picture of program status, including actionable reporting and timely risk identification.
  • Ensure reported metrics measure delivery rather than activity.
  • Resolve blockers at the lowest possible level and escalate when necessary.
  • Minimize administrative friction for engineers by fixing recurring issues at their source.
  • Own a project's scope, schedule, and delivery (Project Manager).
  • Own delivery of the cloud workstream, including dependencies on security and accreditation (Cloud Project Manager).
  • Take on challenging projects, including those already in trouble, and guide other project managers (Senior Project Manager).
  • Own a defined slice of the program and act as the Program Manager's backup (Deputy Program Manager).
  • Own overall program delivery, including inherited commitments and work not directly managed, and serve as the customer's primary point of contact for issues (Program Manager).
