About The Position

Oversees and manages Maui Food Innovation Center (MFIC) food manufacturing and Research and Development (R&D) facilities to ensure compliance with international, federal, state, and local health and safety regulations regarding food manufacturing facilities, equipment operation, and sanitation; reinforces existing operating policies and procedures consistent with best practices. Conducts continuous and extensive outreach to residents and community stakeholders to identify and implement short-term training courses needed in areas such as entrepreneurship, agribusiness, value-added product development, etc., and recruits for those programs and courses. Supervises MFIC staff(Machinery Specialist, Operations Specialist), subject matter consultants, student coaches, lecturers, etc. Provides expertise and leadership in curricular and business development. Supports the development of communication and marketing materials for the purpose of conducting outreach/promotion and fundraising efforts; leverages MFIC programming to foster relationships with leaders across sectors and identifies new opportunities for collaboration and growth. In collaboration with staff, measures and evaluates the results of the MFIC operations and regularly reports these results to the administrative leadership team; recommends changes as necessary to improve operations; ensures market research and trends guide and inform the development of MFIC. Completes and maintains operational and financial plans incorporating community/stakeholders' feedback, needs assessments, best practices, and sustainable modeling. Manages the strategic development of program resources through such avenues as enrollment management, grant writing, partnerships, agency contracts, and pursuing extramural funding opportunities. Develops and implements procedures to promote appropriate communication and information sharing; Regularly monitors relevant forums where job-related issues are announced and discussed to stay informed of related problems and issues as they appear and are announced; passes on technical comments and suggestions that may be beneficial to colleagues. Updates technical skills by attending seminars, classes, and industry workshops and conferences. Ensures that all operations are carried out in conjunction with University, local, state, and federal regulations as well as laws governing business operations. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Agriculture, Business, Culinary Arts, Education, or Food Science or a related field AND three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for Facilities, Programs, Personnel, or Operations Management; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in the area of Program/Facility Management, Facility Usage, or Community Relations / Partnerships as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles, and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with Program, Facilities, or Operations Management.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative, and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparing reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
