About The Position

This is a Management Service position with full Maryland State Benefits. The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) is a national leader in community development and affordable housing. The Division of Neighborhood Revitalization seeks a highly organized, customer-oriented, self-motivated, team player with experience in community development, community planning, financial management, and grant and loan administration. This Director position provides key leadership and policy expertise in the field of community development. The Director leads a team of Assistant Directors, Program Officers, and Project Managers to implement the Sustainable Communities designation, which guides the division’s investments across the state, as well as data evaluation and research, historic preservation programs, policy and program development, and legislative initiatives.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight years of management experience in the community development field such as performing community stakeholder engagement and/or planning, implementing community development projects and programs, and administering community development grant and loan programs.
  • A minimum of four years experience in a supervisory role or leading a team.
  • Experience in the community development field, such as performing community stakeholder engagement, implementing community development projects and programs, and administering community development grant and loan programs may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.
  • A graduate degree may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of experience.
  • Must document eligibility to work in the U.S. upon hire.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States under the Immigration and Reform Control Act of 1986.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing and implementing reinvestment strategies for urban communities.
  • Experience with grant administration with government and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • Experience in the area of community planning or community development.
