About The Position

You are responsible for planning, coordinating and managing a temporary, large-scale, high profile operational project. You provide a central coordination and integration point for related project activities and manage an integrated work plan, which identifies key dependencies, integration points and communication and consultation plans. You provide strategic risk and issues management support and provide regular progress updates to senior management on risks to the project schedule, budget and/or quality of deliverables. You are responsible for managing the project team/work unit’s human and financial resources, including developing and monitoring operating budgets and the hiring, termination, performance management and discipline of staff as necessary. You also establish and maintain client, stakeholder and partner relationships to achieve the desired outcomes of the project.

Requirements

  • Completion of 4 year university degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience managing major projects of a complex nature.
  • Experience in the management of human resources.
  • Experience in the management of external contract resources.
  • Experience in the management of project/operating/capital budgets.
  • Experience preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Project management principles, methodologies and practices.
  • Contract document preparation and the tendering process.
  • The City of Ottawa’s organizational, governance and administrative structures.
  • Legislation, regulations, policies, standards and guidelines relevant to the work.
  • Industry trends and developments.
  • Corporate policies, guidelines and practices.
  • The various Collective Agreements in place at the City.
  • MS Office and other software applications related to the project as required.
  • Familiarity with applicable health and safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place.
  • Knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.
  • English oral, reading, writing.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
