About The Position

The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Program Manager, AI, Partnerships & Product Solutions for Sustainable Food Systems. This position can be home-based within the U.S. Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart is an innovation portfolio of the American Heart Association focused on transforming food systems into measurable drivers of human and planetary health. Within Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart, The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI)® serves to build the scientific infrastructure to move food to a health solution. Specifically, The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI)® is a science-to-action effort of the Rockefeller Foundation that is managed by the American Heart Association. The PTFI offers standardized multi-omics tools, data, and training to a global ecosystem to characterize food quality and biomarkers of consumption and health. Our global ecosystem is mapping food quality based on diverse components, including macronutrients, micronutrients, and specialized metabolites, as well as their variation across food systems. PTFI’s vision is a world where stakeholders in food, agriculture and health are enabled to lead data-driven solutions that provide healthy food from sustainable food systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, public health, nutrition, food science, life sciences, data science, technology, innovation, or related field required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in program management, product development, strategic partnerships, business development, fundraising, innovation, or a related field.
  • Experience developing successful grant proposals, funding opportunities, and/or strategic partnerships.
  • Experience supporting product development from concept through implementation in a scientific, technology, healthcare, or other innovation-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific, technical, or programmatic information into clear proposals, plans, and opportunities for multiple audiences.
  • Experience working across scientific, technical, product, business, and/or external partner teams.
  • Strong grant and proposal development skills, including the ability to translate scientific, programmatic, and product concepts into compelling narratives for multiple funding audiences.
  • Ability to identify and assess philanthropic, corporate, government, and other funding opportunities for alignment with organizational priorities and program needs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with scientific, technical, product, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate scientific and data capabilities into product concepts and requirements, working across scientific, technical, and business teams to support development from early concept through implementation and scale.
  • Strong working knowledge of artificial intelligence, data science, and emerging technologies and their application to products and decision-support tools.
  • Ability to develop business and product strategy, including market and customer discovery, value proposition development, business models, monetization approaches, and strategies for product adoption and sustainable growth.
  • Strong analytical and systems-oriented thinker.
  • Ability to translate scientific and technical capabilities into actionable product, partnership, and funding opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-growing, mission-driven environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or other relevant advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Five (5)+ years of experience preferred.
  • Experience in food and nutrition, healthcare, life sciences, food systems, technology, or another science-driven field strongly preferred.
  • Experience with business strategy, corporate partnerships, revenue-generating initiatives, business model development, commercialization, or development of monetization strategies strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the translation and growth of Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart and the Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI)® by developing opportunities that connect scientific capabilities, data, and innovation with funding, partnerships, practical applications, and business opportunities.
  • Help move strategic opportunities from concept toward implementation by securing resources, engaging external partners, and supporting the development of products and solutions with potential for impact, scale, and revenue generation.
  • Work across internal teams and external collaborators to identify and develop opportunities that advance the application of PTFI science and data across food, nutrition, and health.
  • Contribute to fundraising and revenue development through grant proposals, corporate engagement, and other strategic partnerships.
  • Support product development within the American Heart Association and with external partners, including assessing opportunities, developing proposals and concepts, coordinating cross-functional activities, and helping translate scientific and stakeholder needs into actionable product and partnership strategies.
  • Support development and application of AI- and data-enabled products, tools, and solutions that advance Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart and PTFI translation priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage PTFI and complementary data to address needs across food, nutrition, and health.
  • Translate scientific, product, and stakeholder needs into clear use cases and requirements for data scientists, engineers, technology partners, and product developers.
  • Coordinate with scientific teams, AI experts, technology teams, and external partners to support development and implementation of data- and AI-enabled applications.
  • Support integration and appropriate use of diverse datasets within emerging products and applications.
  • Work with relevant subject matter experts to support responsible data and AI practices, including data provenance, permissions, governance, licensing, privacy, and appropriate use.
  • Monitor emerging AI technologies and applications relevant to food and health and identify opportunities to strengthen PTFI-enabled products and translation activities.
  • Identify and develop funding and revenue opportunities aligned with Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart priorities.
  • Develop grant proposals, concept notes, presentations, and other materials for philanthropic, corporate, and other prospective funders and partners.
  • Support cultivation and engagement of corporate and other strategic partners to advance funding, collaboration, and product opportunities.
  • Assess prospective opportunities for alignment with scientific priorities, organizational capabilities, impact, and potential for sustainability and scale.
  • Coordinate cross-functional input into proposals and partnership opportunities, including development of scopes, budgets, deliverables, and supporting materials.
  • Contribute to development of new approaches for generating sustainable funding and revenue from PTFI science, data, products, and capabilities.
  • Support partner stewardship, reporting, and communications for funded initiatives and strategic collaborations.
  • Support development of products, tools, and solutions that translate PTFI science, data, and Sustainable Food Systems @ Heart capabilities into practical applications across food, nutrition, and health.
  • Work cross-functionally with the PTFI team and other internal stakeholders to identify and assess opportunities for new products and applications.
  • Support product development from early concept through implementation, including development of use cases, requirements, workplans, and pathways to scale and monetization.
  • Translate scientific capabilities, stakeholder needs, and market opportunities into actionable product concepts and development requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external contributors supporting product development, including scientific, technical, product, business, and other subject matter experts.
  • Support products developed internally by the American Heart Association as well as those advanced in collaboration with external partners.
  • Contribute to assessment and development of business models, monetization pathways, partnerships, funding approaches, and go-to-market strategies that support adoption, financial sustainability, and scale of emerging products and solutions.
