About The Position

This position is responsible for organizing and participating in a wide variety of recreation activities for different age groups and interests. The role involves organizing and assisting with city-sponsored events, ensuring adherence to rules and regulations for facility rentals, and potentially supervising volunteers. The Program Leader will also assist supervisors with administrative tasks related to sports programs and facility rentals, instruct individuals or groups on game rules, skill development, and safety, and maintain recreation equipment. Responsibilities include inventory control, coordinating with volunteers and vendors, and addressing complaints. The position may require working nights, weekends, odd schedules, and periodically working alone. As part of the City’s Emergency Management Team, the Program Leader is expected to perform assigned duties during Emergency Management operations, with compensation and disciplinary actions outlined accordingly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six to nine months related experience coordinating various recreational programs.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations for games and facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and playing rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow and interpret instructions in written and oral format.
  • Athletic skill in the various athletic programs offered through the City.
  • Ability to work various hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to resolve conflict.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and participates in a wide variety of recreation activities for different age groups and interests.
  • Organizes and assists with the execution of city-sponsored events.
  • Ensures rules and regulations are being adhered to during community center, gymnasium, field and special event rentals.
  • May supervise volunteers when necessary.
  • Assists supervisors with administrative details involved in organized sports programs and facility rentals.
  • Instructs individuals or groups in rules of games, skill development and safety.
  • Maintains playground and recreation center equipment and games.
  • Responsible for inventory control.
  • Coordinates with various volunteers and vendors to address complaints and bring issues to the attention of supervisors.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • May work nights, weekends or odd schedules and may periodically work alone.
  • Shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an Emergency Management operation.
