This leadership position reports directly to the Research Director of the Pediatric Emergency: Advancing Knowledge (PEAK) Research Team and requires direct interaction and coordination with divisional Principal Investigators. The PEAK Research Team is part of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. The Program Lead must balance managing the oversight of ongoing PEAK studies, multiple investigators, and the supervision and administrative work of a large team. It is essential the Program Lead understand and advocate for what is best for the research team as well as understand the needs of the clinical team in the pediatric emergency department. The Program Lead is the point of contact for issues management when there are problems that need to be addressed for or between research staff and clinical staff. Pediatric Emergency Medicine research studies will be divided between the Program Lead and other Research Coordinator(s), depending on the study and the experience required to lead the study. As a result, the Program Lead will often lead Health Canada-regulated trials and national or multi-institutional studies. This position also requires flexibility in hours to allow for responding to urgent needs of front-line recruitment (including responding to serious adverse events or protocol deviations that require timely reporting and documentation).
